What does DRUWIDS mean?
The name DRUWIDS comes from the reconstructed Celtic word for Druid ( do-are-wid-s ), meaning "foreseeker" or "diviner." The term is deeply rooted in the Indo-European language family:
- The first part, "dru," can mean "oak," a symbol of strength, connection to nature, and knowledge. At the same time, it stands for qualities such as "dense, strong, abundant."
- The second part "wid" goes back to the Indo-European root weid- , which is also found in words like the Greek eidon ("I recognized"), the Latin video ("I see") and the German wissen .
A druid was therefore a "particularly far-seeing" or "much-knowing" person who understood the wisdom of nature and used it in harmony with life. Fittingly, the Celts saw the oak tree as a symbol of the sky god—a connection that also reflects our philosophy of DRUWIDS: naturalness, knowledge, and respect for nature.
